What I've come to realize is that medicine today differs significantly from the past, even just a generation ago. It's no longer a linear journey where you receive your education and then spend 40 years following the same routine day in and day out. Many individuals still cling to that traditional mental model, but it's crucial for us to embrace the reality that medicine has evolved into a non-linear career path. We must develop the ability to adapt.
Unfortunately, our training didn't always prepare us for this dynamic reality. It instilled a rigid notion of what it takes to become a competent physician, often disregarding the unconventional trajectories that many professionals experience in their careers.
