Beyond medicine: the importance of cultural safety in healthcare #shorts

Cultural safety in healthcare is about focusing on the relationship between the healthcare provider and the patient. It's about creating a trusting and safe environment that is built on empathy and understanding. As a healer, it's important to know as much as possible about the community you're serving because that knowledge leads to a better starting point for empathy and asking the right questions.

Understanding the history and culture of the community you're working with is a critical part of building that trust and safety. Unfortunately, in medical school, cultural competency wasn't always emphasized as a core part of what it meant to be a doctor.

But as healthcare providers, we have a responsibility to our patients to provide culturally safe care. That means taking the time to learn about the unique cultural beliefs, values, and experiences of the community we serve. By doing so, we can build stronger relationships with our patients and provide more effective, patient-centered care. #CulturalSafety #PatientCenteredCare #Empathy #CommunityHealthcare
