Is it possible to halt cancer-related lymphoedema, or is lifelong compression the only option?
Our clinical trial suggested just four weeks of compression.
If numbers improved or stabilized, no more compression was needed.
However, chronic lymphoedema requires lifelong compression, which can be very uncomfortable, especially during heat waves.
Yet, when patients understand the importance of their lymphoedema numbers, they're more likely to comply, similar to managing cholesterol to prevent heart attacks.
What strategies have you found effective in managing long-term health conditions?
Steven L. Chen is a breast surgeon.
