I have a deep passion for palliative care because it allows me, as a clinician, to fulfill several meaningful roles. First and foremost, it offers me the chance to be present during some of the most challenging moments in people's lives and to provide support not only to the patients themselves but also to their families and our collaborative healthcare team. While it may sound cliché to describe it as a team sport, the reality is that each one of us plays a pivotal role in shaping the experience and outcome for our patients.
What truly resonates with me is the opportunity to act as a bridge, facilitating communication between patients and their families on one side and our multidisciplinary team on the other. I see my role as translating the unique perspectives and emotions of each party through a different lens, one that extends beyond our traditional training. This collaborative effort allows us to unite and deliver the highest level of care possible during these critical moments. It's the patients and their families who inspire me and keep my passion for palliative care burning bright.
