Initially, I believed that the most powerful person in medicine was the top executive. However, once I entered the field, I realized that the true power lies with each and every one of us. Today, I want to emphasize the importance of self-empowerment and striving for more than just equality, both for women and men in medicine. Instead of solely focusing on burnout and the struggles we face, we need to look at the bigger picture—building community, understanding the difference between equality and equity, and empowering ourselves to drive meaningful change in the field of medicine.
For instance, I was turned down for a role that wasn't even a CEO position simply because I had just become a parent. This experience highlights the ongoing need to challenge outdated perceptions and create an environment where everyone has the opportunity to succeed, regardless of their personal circumstances.
