Our profession is confronting a harsh reality that demands our immediate attention. You may have heard of the alarming number of physician suicides, approximately 400 per year, comparable to a Boeing 747 or two medical school classes. What's even more shocking is the estimated 20 to 100 attempted suicides for each completed one. When we do the math, it translates to a staggering 20,000 suicide attempts annually in the United States, affecting around 2.5% of all physicians. Amidst these distressing numbers, it's crucial to know that you are not alone. This issue deeply affects many in the medical community, calling for us to unite and provide support for one another. Together, we can confront this challenge and foster a culture of understanding and compassion.
