From Toastmasters to stand-up: Embracing the “what if”

I embarked on my Toastmasters journey to confront my deep-seated dread of public speaking. Crafting my inaugural icebreaker speech proved a soporific ordeal until a revelation struck: channeling the wit of Dave Chappelle. With a sprinkle of humor, one joke elicited a resounding laughter, igniting a spark within me.

Amidst the applause, a daring thought whispered, "What if I ventured into stand-up comedy?" Initially dismissed as folly, the persistent murmur of possibility lingered. Over the ensuing year, I heeded the call of "What if." Enrolling in an online comedy course, I found my kin among fellow comedians, honing the craft of joke-writing and delivery.

Despite the toil and inevitable setbacks, reminiscent of navigating the tumultuous waters of adolescence, I persisted. The metamorphosis from apprehensive speaker to aspiring comic demanded resilience and resolve. Yet, with each jest crafted and every stage conquered, the journey affirmed the enduring power of embracing the "What if."
