Gaslighting: a danger to physicians' well-being #shorts

Gaslighting is a form of emotional manipulation that can happen to anyone, including physicians. It can have devastating effects on their personal and professional lives, leading to self-doubt, anxiety, and burnout. Therefore, it's crucial for physicians to be aware of the warning signs and red flags associated with gaslighting.

One effective strategy is to avoid meeting with anyone alone, especially if they suspect gaslighting may be involved. It's always a good idea to have someone else present to serve as a witness and provide support. If meeting alone is unavoidable, consider recording the meeting or politely declining and documenting everything that was discussed.

Another red flag to watch out for is when someone starts to create confusion or self-doubt, also known as a U-turn. This can happen when someone contradicts what they previously said, causing the physician to question their own memory or perception of the situation. Recognizing these signs and documenting everything can help prevent gaslighting from taking hold.

Protecting oneself from gaslighting is essential for physicians to maintain their well-being and provide quality care to their patients. By being aware of the warning signs, avoiding meeting alone, and documenting everything, physicians can take steps to protect themselves from gaslighting and the harmful effects it can have on their lives. #physician #gaslighting #redflags #protectyourself
