I said to him, "How do you go for an NG tube and end up in ICU on a ventilator?” And then my anger spilled over, and I said, “Other than medical incompetence.” And he never looked at me. He never told me his name. He simply stared straight ahead at my sister in the bed. And finally, he said she has stage four breast cancer.
And I said, “You don't know that,” assuming that he was offering that as an explanation. And I said, “You don't know that.” And a brief period went by, and he simply repeated that she has stage four breast cancer.
