Misunderstanding schizophrenia: the truth behind the diagnosis

What if our perceptions of schizophrenia are completely off the mark? They believe that patients with schizophrenia are dangerous, not realizing it's a medical diagnosis, much like diabetes or hypertension. I feel that we often picture patients with schizophrenia as constantly ill, but that's not the case. Just as someone with diabetes manages episodes of high blood sugar, individuals with schizophrenia can experience episodes but are often well most of the time. How do you think society's views on schizophrenia could change with better understanding?
