As someone who has experience negotiating hospital contracts, I can tell you that it's all about finding the right fit. It doesn't matter how much a hospital may need a certain doctor if the contract doesn't meet their needs and expectations.
Take, for example, the female interventional cardiologist I'm presenting to you. She's a phenomenal doctor and a valuable asset to any team, but she won't sign a contract that doesn't include an exit clause or doesn't offer an acceptable salary and bonus.
