I was drawn to emergency medicine for countless reasons, as it serves as a vital gateway to the medical world. In this field, we witness firsthand the public health challenges that impact our communities. At Grady Memorial Hospital, where I work, many of our patients are either uninsured or underinsured, struggling with the repercussions of social determinants of health.
Now, as we shift our focus to the social drivers of health, my role as an emergency medicine physician allows me to be an advocate for my patients and mentor for medical students and residents.
