In the challenging setting we operate in, it's a whirlwind of patient care, a packed waiting room, a backlog of around 10 e-consults awaiting our attention, a constant stream of staff messages, a list of phone calls that need to be made, not to mention jury excuses and various other demands. Given this overwhelming workload, it's not that we lack the desire for compassion, but rather we find ourselves succumbing to what I can only describe as "physician inbox fatigue."
