It was arrogance. I think that allowed the physicians to not even consider that something could go wrong during a procedure in which they participated, and it was arrogance. I think that allowed the young physician to stand at the foot of my sister's bed and simply say, “She has stage four breast cancer.” As though he knew enough about breast cancer to know that was the cause when that was a disease, totally outside the realm of his specialty.
Arrogance does not belong in our profession because arrogance can kill.
