We've noticed a trend where solutions being emphasized often revolve around practices like yoga and mindfulness—things that physicians are encouraged to adopt for their self-care. However, during our conversations with physicians, a resounding sentiment emerged: these strategies aren't effective. In fact, they seem to unfairly place the blame on the physicians themselves.
The implication is that if only doctors could manage their self-care better, they wouldn't be facing these challenges. Yet, our research has unveiled a different reality: the roots of these challenges stem from deeper structural issues. What we've unveiled in our study is that burnout isn't merely a matter of individual distress among workers.
Instead, it's a reflection of the distress embedded within the very work environments they navigate.
