When you're having that conversation with your teenage child who is about to go to college, go a little bit deeper into that conversation. What kind of questions should we be asking them? What kind of questions should they be thinking about? Looking at it from a college student perspective, it's important for them to really communicate to their family the kind of comfort measures they want. If something happens to me, let's say they get meningitis, where do they want to be hospitalized? Do they want to be at the school? If your family lives far away, will they want to be transported back home?
Or what kind of comfort measures? Who do they want in the room? That privacy issue is very important to some students, and they might just want their families. They might not want their family. They might want all their friends and everybody else to come to visit.
