Our lives as residents are often under the control of others. From our daily schedule to when we arrive and leave, the people we interact with, the tasks we perform, and even the location where we receive training—none of it seems to be within our own hands. We simply submit an application into the vast digital void, hoping it will spit out a suitable place for us.
In the workplace, our reality is similarly dictated by external forces. Despite common assumptions, we don't have the luxury to negotiate our salary like most workers do. We lack the freedom to decide when we can take time off or request paid leave whenever we desire. So much of this control lies beyond our reach.
However, the bargaining process offers us a glimmer of hope. It serves as an opportunity to reclaim some of that lost power, enabling us to regain control over aspects that affect our lives.
