Here's the deal: most residency programs are closely aligned with major hospitals or large facilities. These programs often benefit from a built-in soft recruiting process associated with their affiliations. One of the primary reasons for hosting a residency is to funnel young doctors into their system. When someone presents an alternative to traditional employment, it can be unsettling for them. They fear losing these young doctors to different career paths, which can jeopardize their recruiting efforts. As a result, I often encounter pushback from residency directors, even those with whom I have good relationships.
