Taking a stand: unmasking institutional complicity in medicine #shorts

When we talk about "do no harm," it's more than just refraining from actively causing harm. It means refusing to turn a blind eye when harm is being inflicted. Let's think about some well-known cases of abuse and misconduct within the medical field, not necessarily limited to sexual misconduct, but certainly involving unethical behavior. The names Larry Nassar, Christopher Dun, and Michael Swango immediately come to mind. These individuals were doctors who betrayed their profession and caused unspeakable damage to their patients and their families. But let's not forget, they didn't gain access to their vulnerable victims on their own. They were enabled by years of institutional complicity, which allowed them to continue their horrific acts. By the time they were finally held accountable, countless lives had been irreversibly shattered. As physicians, we have a responsibility to stand up and declare that this kind of behavior is absolutely unacceptable in the field of medicine. It's not just a minor transgression; it's completely and utterly unacceptable. We must take a firm stance and ensure that such actions are met with severe consequences. Our patients and their well-being should always be our top priority.
