In academic settings, I've noticed that administrators are increasingly pressuring pediatricians to reduce the duration of teen well-child checks from 30 to 20 minutes. This is concerning. I firmly believe that our role is indispensable and cannot be compromised in such a manner. It's crucial to recognize our value; if we start doubting our necessity, the administration will likely intensify their demands.
Establishing boundaries is essential, even if it's a new experience for us. If setting a boundary results in dismissal, it's not necessarily negative. It can be a protective measure, saving us from future, possibly more intense pressures. It's important to understand and respect our professional limits. Starting with small steps is key. There's no need for grand gestures; subtle yet firm boundary setting can be very effective.
