I've seen firsthand the devastating impact that threats to the safety of nurses and clinicians can have on the healthcare setting. Unfortunately, I've witnessed it frequently. The hardest and most heartbreaking part is that many of us have been led to believe that it's simply something we must endure as part of the job. We're told that the patient's needs come first and that we should just accept verbal and even physical abuse as part of the job. But this kind of culture is unacceptable and should never be normalized. It's time for healthcare facilities and organizations to prioritize the safety of their employees and take active steps to prevent abuse and harassment. Together, we can create a culture of respect and safety for all healthcare workers.
