The impact of National Women Physicians Day

We often talk about standing up for the marginalized, yet many of us are marginalized ourselves, especially as BIPOC women in medicine. As a BIPOC woman, I've had to learn how to listen more, advocate better, and elevate the voices of others. While I'm not perfect, this has been my focus for many years.

After about five years, I grew tired of the same discussions about fighting discrimination and proving that women are equally capable. My first and only article on KevinMD, until this podcast, was about creating National Women Physicians Day. I wanted to create a holiday to help patients recognize that the woman in the room could be their doctor. Even now, I often have to announce myself as the doctor twice.
