The misery of hidradenitis suppurativa and the importance of raising awareness #shorts

It's surprising that more people aren't aware of hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) when it's such a debilitating disease. HS is characterized by painful nodules or abscesses that can resemble boils. These abscesses can become extremely painful over the course of a few weeks and often open up, draining pus and blood. The most common areas affected by HS are the underarms and groin, which are often hidden from view, making it difficult for patients to talk about.

The result is that many patients suffer in silence, never telling their family members about the condition, or it takes them years to open up about it. This is understandable as HS can be a source of embarrassment and shame for patients.

It's important that we raise awareness about this condition and break the silence around it. Only by talking openly and honestly about HS can we hope to destigmatize it and help patients get the treatment they need.
