As a clinical pharmacist, I am passionate about patient care, especially in oncology. These patients often face a difficult and potentially life-threatening illness, which can be an overwhelming time for them. Navigating the complex regimens, and the various healthcare providers can be challenging.
In my role, I can meet with patients face-to-face, be a point of contact, and advocate for them. This allows me to ensure that their care is tailored to their specific needs and that they have a positive experience throughout their journey.
One example that stands out to me was a patient who had difficulty swallowing pills. I was able to work with the patient and the healthcare team to find a solution that would allow the patient to continue their treatment, such as crushing the pills and mixing them with food. This small change made a big difference in the patient's quality of life and helped to improve their overall treatment experience.
I believe that the role of clinical pharmacists in patient care is crucial, and I am dedicated to improving patient safety and experience.
