It's important to understand and clearly communicate the importance of advance directives and end-of-life planning, not only for the benefit of our patients, but also for ourselves.
We will all eventually face our own mortality, and it's crucial to have a clear understanding of what we want for ourselves in terms of end-of-life care. For example, some individuals may choose to die at home, while others may have different preferences. It's important to have these conversations with both our patients and their relatives, as well as for ourselves.
Don't be afraid to define your own preferences and values when it comes to end-of-life care. Your wishes deserve to be honored, and by having these important discussions, you can ensure that your final moments are spent in the way that you desire.
