I always wanted to be able to help my patients no matter what was wrong with them. And, of course, where that starts is in finding out what's wrong with them, what their complaints are, and what disease has caused their complaints. And so, as an internist, I am very much a diagnostician, and I may not be the one who cures their disease, but I wanted to be the one to find out what their disease was. And I think that need still profoundly exists in medicine today.
